Post Processing

Post-treatment of machining refers to further processing of the completed part or workpiece to meet specific requirements and standards. The following are some common post-treatment methods for machining:

Cleaning and grease removal: After machining is complete, parts are often cleaned to remove swarf, grease, lubricants and other dirt generated during machining.

Grinding and polishing: These processes are used to improve the surface quality and finish of the part. Grinding removes bumps and marks from the surface, while polishing smooths the surface and improves gloss.

Plating and coating: By coating the surface of a part with a metallic or non-metallic material, additional protection and improved part performance can be provided. Common coating methods include electroplating, spraying, coating and anodizing.

Heat treatment: Heat treatment is a method of changing the properties of a material through a heating and cooling process to alter properties such as hardness, strength and toughness. Common heat treatment methods include quenching, tempering, annealing and normalizing.

Sandblasting and shot blasting: These methods are used to clean surfaces and increase their roughness. Sandblasting and shot blasting removes oxidation, paint, rust and other contaminants from the surface, while also increasing the roughness of the surface for coating or bonding.

Marking and lettering: After machining is complete, parts sometimes need to be marked or lettered for easy identification and tracking. Common methods include laser engraving, mechanical engraving and printing.

Assembly and inspection: For some complex parts or assemblies, assembly and commissioning may be required. Assembly involves combining multiple parts into a final product, while inspection is used to verify that the dimensions, quality and functionality of the part meet the requirements.
